Appearance: Zetta is a tall, well-built, broad shouldered man. His face has an angular quality to it, including a rather sharp nose. His ears are very long and pointed and a main of bright red, fiery hair reaches down past his waist. His eyes are completely white and surrounded by black tattoos.

His clothing is mainly black leather—pants, shoes, and a mix between a shirt and a jacket, and a cape kept in place by two red and gold straps crossing the upper half of his chest. There are three red leather straps around each wrist and ankle, and two red and gold half-belts across his torso in an x-shape. Two gold chains hang from the belt loop of his pants on either side.


Personality: Let’s get the obvious part out of the way; Zetta is cocky as hell. Basically, Zetta’s in love with his own power and, above all, himself. He has power, he knows it, and he’s not about to let anyone forget it. And if they do? Well, he’ll just beat the concept into their heads. He’s brash and rude to anyone he meets and is ready and willing to pick a fight. Why not? Not like he’s going to lose or anything..

Power is one of the things that Zetta cherishes most of all, and will often give some form of respect toward those who have it or have had it in the past, as long as they haven’t crossed him. And, sometimes, even if they do. It’s a strange sort of thing that depends on the manner of defeat, the time, the way the planets are aligned, and whether or not they rub it in his face. There will, of course, be a rematch. He can’t stand being seen as less than someone else.

Aaaaaand that loops around back to the first bit. If someone’s claiming to be more powerful than him, Zetta won’t hesitate to challenge them to a fight. He’ll show them who’s the Bad-Ass Freakin’ Overlord around here even if they don’t want him to.

Now, that isn't to say he doesn't have a soft spot. Zetta will never EVER admit it, but he cares for a few close friends and has been known to show some amount of mercy on occasion (he'll pound you into the ground and/or completely humiliate you, but he won't outright KILL you, for example). There are people he would consider friends, even if he doesn't think he considers them as such.

On that note, don’t go asking Zetta for much emotionally. Emotional matters confuse and frustrate him because he never knows how to react. He finds them a sign of weakness (or girliness) and will either mock someone for being emotional or otherwise yell at them to cut it out. He’ll probably miss subtle cues altogether or mistake one emotion for another if it’s anything other than the positive ones and anger.


Abilities: Zetta isn’t a bad-ass freakin’ Overlord for nothing. As a demon, he has a lot of strength and stamina, even moreso than most. He’s very capable with a sword and capable of using a few powerful moves with them, and has some power over fire, using a violet flame to burn things like Sacred Tomes. He might also be able to use some powerful Star magic (though that may just be D3’s DLC talking. O.o).

I won’t go into too much detail with all this, because a lot of it’s going to be limited in Manhattan. So, to the important things!

Zetta will probably one of the physically strongest people in Manhattan. The largest thing he’ll probably be able to lift will be a car, and even then not, like, over his head or anything like that, and if he manages that it won’t be for very long.

But! As a result, a lot of his other skills will suffer. He won’t have any of his sword skills and no star magic, and he’ll only be able to keep a low flame around his hand, essentially being delegated to the role of being something flashy or a source of light.


Weaknesses: Zetta will hardly ever turn down a fight. Challenge him and he will almost always accept. He believes he will win in the end, no matter who the person he’s fighting against is and what their reputation is (with a few exceptions of course). He has a quick temper and rushes into things, preferring to solve his problems with violence.

Also, he, like most NIS demon protagonists, has a bit of a problem with being true to himself. However, Zetta has the extra problem of being so in love with his own power and image that he tends to miss how he affects other people. The fact that he could be hurting others with his actions doesn’t even cross his mind… if he even cares. He’s gotten a bit better since the events of his game, but he’s still extremely selfish.

Zetta is, as mentioned before, extremely arrogant and prideful. He believes that it's near impossible for him to be taken down and will take up just about any challenge. Losses aren't dealt with very well, to the point that he will spend a good portion of his time wondering what went wrong or beating himself up about it.

Also, Salome. Go after his not!girlfriend and you will definitely get your ass kicked. Anything happens to her, he’ll probably end up blaming himself to some point, though he won’t show that he is. Losing her made him realize just how important she was to him, and like hell he’s going to let her go. He won’t tell anyone this (not even himself) but he loves the woman with all his heart.

Oh, yeah, and his complete assholishness isn’t likely to earn him too many friends.

In terms of combat, Zetta focuses mainly on power. He’s big and he’s strong, but his fighting style is about the same as his going-into-a-fight style: be the first to charge and run the bastards over. He doesn’t think ahead, so it’s easy to blindside him, especially if his opponent is stronger than he expected (not that it’s hard to outwit him to begin with; the man’s not the sharpest tool in the shed).

He’s also fiercely independent and will insist that he can handle someone on his own. He has trouble admitting that he needs help in a fight (or in anything, really) and it takes a LOT to get him to ask for it from people he doesn’t really know.


Manhattanite or outsider? Outsider


History: Once upon a time there was a Netherworld. Well, a bunch of Netherworlds, really. It’s a big, pluralistic cosmos, and if you tried to fit every demon you could onto one hunk of rock, well… you couldn’t. Not without an epic bloodbath anyway. But that’s not the point.

Anyway, yes, once upon a time there was a Netherworld. Like most Netherworlds, this one had an Overlord—a very ambitious Overlord. An Overlord who ended up becoming the strongest Overlord in the entire cosmos (or, at least, his little stretch of it). His power was unmatched, and, aside from Alexander, God of Destruction, no one would dare challenge him.

Well, Lord Zetta ended up taking on an apprentice—a human apprentice. Her name was Salome, and she showed huge amounts of promise. Oh, and she was kind of in love with him… a lot. Unfortunately, Zetta was too busy being powerful and taking over the universe to listen to any of her needs so she left. But, still wanting to see him happy, she began siphoning her mana power bit by bit to Zetta, slowly dying as she did so since mana’s kind of like life force and all that. However, even with her dying, she still managed to become an Overlord. If she hadn’t been passing her mana on to Captain Ungrateful, she probably could have surpassed him.

Fast-forward an ambiguous amount of time into the future: Pram the Oracle has foretold the destruction of Zetta's Netherworld. Obviously not caring for that future too much, Zetta heads in to seek out the Sacred Tome, which not only foretells the events of his Netherworld but also acts as its core and make sure nothing bad happens to it. You know, like sudden, epic destruction and all that. After he defeats an assassin by the name of Raiden, Zetta, certain that he's averted any danger, decides to take a peek into the Sacred Tome.

"Lord Zetta is stupid. His foolishness has doomed the Netherworld to extinction," it reads. Angry that this book has dared to say something so insulting to him, Zetta promptly decides that the only solution is to burn the sucky dumb thing… sending his Netherworld up in flames (go figure). As a last-ditch effort to save his Netherworld, Zetta binds his soul to the Sacred Tome, losing his body and becoming the book itself.

Way to go, dood.

As he laments the loss of his Netherworld and body, he notices a young girl, who dashes off not too long after. He calls for her to come back, but she’s already distracted by something else, and Zetta doesn’t know wtf. Pram arrives not minutes later, taunting Zetta before she finally decides to help him out. Using other Overlords to write wishes into the tome, Zetta began his effort to rebuild his Netherworld.

Salome happens to be one of these Overlords. The news of her sickness comes as a surprise to Zetta, but he is more worried about his own problems than hers (of course, he's not worried about her or anything. Not at all. Really). But, shortly after this, an earthquake shakes the cosmos and all signs point to the return of The One, the most powerful being to ever live ever. Everyone is on edge because of this, since it’s said The One has a nasty curse up his sleeve that can kill even the strongest of demons. The only one to ever survive the curse was Dragon Overlord Babylon, and even then at the cost of his mana. Even Alex—who normally drops everything to fight Zetta and hates it when his duels with the Overlord are interrupted—retreats in the middle of a fight, much to Zetta's confusion.

But, afterwards, Alex decides to help Zetta out, calling a temporary truce, and Zetta moves on through the Netherworld Alex creates. It’s… filled with corn-people. Yeah. Not kidding. This is important, I swear.

Why? Well, Trenia, the girl that Zetta found earlier in the game and tried to set him on fire but Zetta decided to keep her around anyway and has pretty much just been wandering around lately telling Alex vital secrets decides to show off her new friend, a corn-person that the other demons begin to think is The One. Shortly after this connection is made, Zetta returns and, now having an intense hatred of corn, kills “The One.”

King Drake III, another, dumber, Overlord, immediately declares that Zetta has been cursed: he only has three days to live (bzzzzkaplooie). Zetta’s pretty shocked, but decides not to spend too much time on it, figuring he can beat the curse, continuing on his merry conquering way.

Alex, however, is having none of it, and decides to kill Zetta before the curse does. Salome intervenes, however, and the two beat down the god. …And then Salome coughs up blood. She doesn’t have much time left (which hasn’t been repeated over and over again). She asks Zetta if he loves her, just so she can know before she dies, but Zetta’s not going to admit anything like that. That’s wimpy girl talk. Still, Salome asks him one last favor.

She asks him to marry her.

Zetta’s all “hell no” and is still kinda pissed about the whole leaving thing, but he can’t seem to get her out of his head. BUT he has his Netherworld back, so everything should be all right, right? Right…

But Salome’s decided to make the place over… BY CRASHING HER NETHERWORLD INTO HIS. Yeah… she’s gone a little batshit by now. She’s all “LET’S GET MARRIED AND DIE THERE TOGETHER!” And Zetta’s all “HELL NO. WHAT THE CRAP’S WRONG WITH YOU?! >O”

But Salome’s not having any of that logic stuff, so she declares that Zetta must kill her or else Zetta’s gonna end up with his Netherworld destroyed all over again. So Zetta goes to get Salome back to her senses.

When he arrives, he finds that Salome’s Netherworld is pretty much… well, dead or dying. It’s… pretty bad. But Zetta comes across Seedle, who has his own vendetta against her. Basically, she killed Seedle for trying to rape her. Zetta has no sympathy and is more like “Yeah, you deserved it, dick.” Alex, who’s just there because he’s wondering what the hell was up with Salome and why she interrupted his epic final battle with Zetta, overhears all this and kicks Seedle’s ass, declaring that Seedle was interrupting HIS fight with Zetta.

Zetta then finally arrives at Salome and finds that she’s decorated a beautiful chapel for them… WITH BLOOD (yay). Yeah, Zetta’s still not going to choose death, so he fights Salome.

But, turns out Salome actually wanted Zetta to kill her… So that she could die in Zetta’s arms. She asks him one last time if he loves her, but Zetta doesn’t answer because that’s still wimpy girl talk.

Zetta is completely devastated by her death, and is at a loss as to what to do. He’s not even worried about getting his body back or removing the curse anymore. All he wants is his Salome back. He consults Pram and they both come to the decision to write a wish in the Tome. Pram writes the wish and Salome almost comes back, but Seedle intervenes, attacking Pram and closing the Gate of the Dead (orite, he’s the Overlord of the Underworld).

Seedle then proceeds to tell Zetta that the truth about his power—that the only reason he was the strongest Overlord was because Salome had been giving him her power. Zetta’s in shock, but Alex appears and attacks Seedle again. Once Seedle’s out of the way, Trenia approaches Zetta. Turns out she’s the spirit of the Sacred Tome, and she basically wanted to see what would happen if he lost everything. Seeing the change in Zetta, she decides to give him his body back, and Zetta then wishes for Salome to be revived.

She is, of course, and BONUS, looks like The One was a fake! Things are back to normal for Zetta from there on out… save for some vassals he managed to pick up escaping by attempting to kill him with a pillow filled with knives.

Oh, yeah, somewhere before the corn people, there was a liiiiittle blip in his adventure. He ended up somewhere called Manhattan, a terrible place where there was some kind of monster stomping around and he couldn’t use his powers very much, and some assholes decided to make his life hell.

Well… He ended up back there again.
